Monarch Airlines was the UK’s oldest IT-charter airline until it’s demise due to financial difficulties in October 2017 – the end of an era for British commercial aviation. G-MONV was delivered new from Boeing in April 1991 and flew with Monarch until returned to the lessor in 1996.

New York Air was the second airline formed in the US after deregulation, starting operations in December 1980.The airline grew with a fleet of DC-9s, MD-80s and latterly 737-300s before it was merged into Continental Airlines during 1987.

Orion was a UK charter airline which operated between 1980 and January 1989 after the airline was sold to Thomson Travel and integrated into the Britannia fleet. G-BLKE was delivered new from Boeing in March 1985.

Pacific Western (Canada)

As is still common practice for Canadian airlines looking to boost capacity during the period winter period Pacific Western leased C-FPWD from Monarch Airlines between November 1986 and April 1987 with the aircraft retaining it’s original operator’s basic livery.

Sobelair
(Belgium)

Sobelair was a long-established Belgian airline which began operations in 1946. Sobelair was associated with Sabena and Swissair and following the demise of the national carriers in 2001 was acquired by new investors. It faced increasing financial struggles and declared bankruptcy in 2004.

This is OO-SBX in Sobelair’s livery of the late 1990s.
